Methodist church records in County Armagh

Methodist chruch records in county Armagh and throughout Ireland are generally for a circuit; for marriages each individual church usually has its own registers from 1845 onwards. Because the composition of circuits has changed from time to time, it is important to note that the records of any Methodist church may be found in several different circuits.

Other classes of records are useful to research include; Membership registers or quarterly class rolls, dating mainly from the mid-19th century (a few go back to 1819)), are an important source for researching the growth and the decline of Methodism in an area. Circuit schedule books, dating mainly from the 1870s, give the names of Methodist societies, the number in each, the numbers of new members received, of members removed elsewhere, of emigrations and of deaths, as well as details of Temperance associations, returns of Sunday schools and chapels, and accounts.
